ResultSet How to get strin from object when data is null?

In my Oracle table there are columns with different type.

I want to read all columns as number.

String str = resultSet.getString("col1");

The problem is that if column in database is defined as number, and value is

0.5

The returned string will be

.5

I can not use any other getter like getDecimal and etc.

if I use:

String str = resultSet.getObject("col1").toString();

I'll get an exception if the value is null.

  1. You could use

    String str = String.valueOf(resultSet.getObject("col1"));

    as a simple workaround to avoid any exceptions. (Not sure why you can't use resultSet.getDouble("col1") though.)

  2. If you don't want to see an empty string rather than the literal "null" for a null value (which is what String.valueOf()) will produce, you can use:

    Object value = resultSet.getObject("col1")
    String str = value == null ? "" value.toString();

Slow Android emulator

I have a 2.67 GHz Celeron processor, 1.21 GB of RAM on a x86 Windows XP Professional machine. My understanding is that the Android emulator should start fairly quickly on such a machine, but for me it does not. I have followed all instructions in setting up the IDE, SDKs, JDKs and such and have had some success in staring the emulator quickly but is very particulary. How can I, if possible, fix this problem?
