Clarify what is asked for in java Exceptions assignment

It does not appear evident to me what is asked in a java assignment I have received. Does anyone understand what is needed:

In the previous assignment, you implemented a stack and a list that both inherited from the abstract class ArrayIntCollection. In this task you are supposed to extend that implementation by make it throw exceptions if you try to perform operations that are not allowed (for example, if you try to call pop or peek on an empty stack or if you try to remove an element from a non existing position). You shall create and use the exception class CollectionException, of the type UncheckedException. Also write a test program ExceptionMain.java that generates and catches exceptions from your modified methods.

The way I understand it, I need to create a exception class called CollectionException , and it needs to extend UncheckedException . (this itself is not working, as I cannot find a class called UncheckedException ).

Also, it is obvious if I am to use try-catch or throws for this?

thanks to all!

  1. ...by make it throw exceptions...

    will mean, yes, you have to use throw.

    Also write a test program ExceptionMain.java that generates and catches exceptions from your modified methods.

    At least here you will have to use try...catch.

    Regarding "UncheckedException": Either there is a class of this name (perhaps in another package). Then you can ask your teacher where it is. Otherwise you can extend from java.lang.RuntimeException (which is an unchecked exception) and ask you teacher if that's OK.

  2. Create a class called CustomException which extends exception like below

    public class CustomException extends Exception {

    public NestableException() {
    super();
    }

    public NestableException(String msg) {
    super(msg);
    }

    public NestableException(String msg, Throwable cause) {
    super(msg, cause);
    }

    public NestableException(Throwable cause) {
    super(cause);
    }
    }

    Create a class that in which you override the methods that I believe were asked to create previously which would throw the CustomException with or without message. Create a main class which calls those methods and this will obviously have try catch block as you have thrown exception. Just in catch block do a debug or SOP with e.getMessage()

Why is this Javascript much *slower* than its jQuery equivalent?

I have a HTML list of about 500 items and a "filter" box above it. I started by using jQuery to filter the list when I typed a letter (timing code added later): $('#filter').keyup( function() { var jqStart = (new Date).getTime(); var search = $(this).val().toLowerCase(); var $list = $('ul.ablist > li'); $list.each( function() { if ( $(this).text().toLowerCase().indexOf(search) === -1 ) $(this).hide(); else $(this).show(); } ); console.log('Time: ' + ((new Date).getTime() - jqStart)); } ); However, there was a couple of seconds delay after typing each letter (particularly the first letter). So I thought it may be slightly quicker if I used plain Javascript (I read recently that jQuery's each function is particularly slow). Here's my JS equivalent: document.getElementById('filter').addEventListener( 'keyup', function () { var jsStart = (new Date).getTime()...

Is it possible to have IF statement in an Echo statement in PHP

Thanks in advance. I did look at the other questions/answers that were similar and didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I'm trying to do this, am I on the right path? echo " <div id='tabs-".$match."'> <textarea id='".$match."' name='".$match."'>". if ($COLUMN_NAME === $match) { echo $FIELD_WITH_COLUMN_NAME; } else { } ."</textarea> <script type='text/javascript'> CKEDITOR.replace( '".$match."' ); </script> </div>"; I am getting the following error message in the browser: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_IF Please let me know if this is the right way to go about nesting an IF statement inside an echo. Thank you.
